Over the life of the Europa series, a large number of official and unofficial play aids, rules variants, fanzines, and other Europa-related materials have been published. The most important of these was a fanzine entitled ETO: The New Europa Newsletter. Bill Stone began the publication, and carried it through to issue #54. Arthur Goodwin took over the reins beginning with #55 and shut down the newsletter after publishing just two issues.

Early issues were 12 pages long, 16-20 pages by issue #20, and averaged about 28 pages by the time issue #40 came along. Every facet of the Europa system and of the individual Europa games eventually could be found in the magazine. Individual armies, supply, weather, aircraft, postal play, strategies, orders of battle, reader insight, and new scenarios are just scratching the surface.

Starting with issue #45 in 1989, the subtitle was changed to The Independent Europa Newsletter in response to GRD's acquisition of the trademark and publication rights for the system.

Though it is never explicitly stated, "ETO" is here assumed to be the generally-accepted anagram for "European Theater of Operations," which is the geographic scope of the Europa series, though parts of North and East Africa, as well as the Near East are included.
