August II 1941 (German Turn)

Light Soviet losses this turn, around 20 or so, and no German losses to report. By army group the action was as follows.

AGN: Not much in the Finnish front, the soviets are moving artillery towards Vipurii, but that’s about it. The Germans uses the Kriegsmarine commando surprise rule to get a +1 and engineers to lever the Soviets out of hex 0903 (which, if you don’t have your map handy, is where the Leningrad river line reaches the sea). The Germans also took hex 1432, which also is across that river line. The soviets did lose a tank and an NKVD division (not the good ones) but that was it.

AGC: the Germans attacked the soviet wall at Kaluga and got a DR. It killed the fort and the Germans are there in force, so stay tuned to this front for more action in the very near future. The panzers have three trucks in the vicinity, so they can live behind soviet lines for a long long time.

AGS: Kiev fell to a vigorous assualt (a DR was rolled) but the defenders were already halved for being out of supply. Odessa continues to hold out thanks to naval resupply, but the black sea fleet is paying a heavy price with several ships taking damage and the battleship limping along with 3 hits on it.

August I 1941

We’ve finished the August I turn with about 65 Soviet losses and few, if any German losses. The breakdown by army group is as follows.

AGN: The Finns captured Vipurri on a DR after a big dogfight over the city were three Finnish fighters were aborted. One Russian bomber was shot down and a couple of fighters were aborted. South of Leningrad the Germans took two hexes (one on a DH) in the now solid front line amidst the swamps and rivers. The Russians are busy digging in.

AGC: Raillines were repaired and Smolensk was taken but no real combat took place. The army group is advancing a solid line of counters that looks like the Great Wall of China, but there is not much space behind them to Moscow.

AGS: Starvation began to set in amongst the defenders of Kiev, but no assault was made. A planned German assault on Odessa was called off at the last moment when Soviet flak aborted three German bombers flying ground support. The Soviet navy did manage to run more supplies into the garrison, but at a cost of another hit on a CA.

June and July 1941

We have completed the JUL II turn and the Soviets lost 105 factors (about 1/2 isolated) to very few for the Germans. But, Russian counter attacks in the south did kill two combat engineer units and a motorized antitank unit in the north. The Russians also managed to bomb a temporary german airfield near leningrad and abort to JU-87’s. Also, almost all rail lines west of the Russian front line are wrecked. Here is the breakdown of the action by front:

AGN: Narva was captured and the Germans went on to advance to the gates of Luga and Novgorod and clear out the woods east of Dno. The Russians are frantically building their first line of entrenchments, but some northwest of Novgorod arn’t done yet and are likely to be the subject of intense fighting in the next turn. The Russians did bomb a temporary airbase northeast of Pskov and abort two Ju-87s.

AGC: The frontier armies were eliminated and AGC moved eastwards. Not much exciting, just lots of repairing raillines and mopping up delaying forces left behind by the Russians.

AGS: The Dnieper was breached both north and south of Kiev and the noose tightend around Odessa. Russian supplies were ferried in with a light crusier (I think) taking a hit from German sea patrols. AGS also has just about finished clearing up the final border armies that remain from the JUN II turn.
